Faijta Fajita!

July13

In topic this week we have been making Fajitas. We learnt that fajitas are originally from Mexico. We added to our fajitas, peppers, chicken, sour cream and salsa. We got to eat them after we had made them,  they looked amazing. There were mixed opinions on whether we liked them or not. Some of us didn’t like the taste of the salsa, but most of us loved all of is, especially the sour cream.

Zeraffa Giraffa!

July13

This week in literacy we have finally finished the story of Zeraffa Giraffa. We have read through the whole book, we have really enjoyed reading this story. To show our knowledge understanding and enjoyment of the story, we have recalled the story from beginning to end, writing in first person as if we were Atir or Zeraffa. We have made sure that our last piece of writing in year 1 was our best, and by golly have we written lots. We have used so much exciting language and speech from the story, we’ve become authors without even knowing it.

7 continents and foods!

July7

In Geography this week we have been exploring the 7 continents again. We have really impressed Miss Wheeler with how much we have remembered and how well we know where each continent is. Once we had recognised and coloured in the continents correctly, we then had a range of 7 foods from around the World. We had to match them to each continent, again Miss Wheeler was impressed with our knowledge of different foods. We really enjoyed exploring and finding out where snails, kangaroo and burgers and chips came from.

In numeracy this week we have been have been continuing with our division and multiplication learning. We have been adding equal numbers, as well as grouping counters into equal groups. We have also put objects into groups of a number to find how many groups there would be. Miss Wheeler was really impressed and said that some of our work was tricky, but we worked independently to solve each problem and were able to show our workings out.

Facts!

July4

In computing today we used our noticing skills to recall information about the 7 continents on a child friendly website. We worked with our partner to find out some interesting facts about each continent, wrote them down on scrap paper. Once we had found at least three facts, we then typed these up to create our own power point presentation. We changed the size and style of our font.

Zeraffa Giraffa!

July4

This week in literacy we have carried on with our learning and reading of Zeraffa Giraffa. This week we have created a whole class lullaby to send Zeraffa to sleep on the felucca. We have also created our own newspaper report to tell the people of France all about a fantastically amazing giraffe  making it’s way through the city of Paris. We have really enjoyed reading this story and really using our imagination to use different ways to write.
